After making changes to the database and system structures, the database structure must be updated in the Database Management view. The Database Management view contains a list of tasks that must be executed before the changes take effect.
The database management functions are available for users who have administrator rights.
Changes that require updating the database structure include the following:
•Installing a new version of the application if the new version includes database changes
•Adding or deleting data types
•Adding, modifying, or deleting data extra fields
•Adding or deleting dimensions
•Adding or deleting periods
•Adding hierarchies to dimensions
•Increasing the hierarchy depth of a dimension
•Adding or removing data types to/from dimensions
For example, when you add a new data type and save it in the Data Types view, data cannot be entered to the new data type before you have updated the database structure. In this case, the task "Update data types" appears in the task list in the Database Management view.
To update the database structure, click Execute.
Copying dimensions from one year to another
In the Database Management view you can copy year-specific dimensions/units from one year to another. The dimensions, hierarchies, properties, extra fields, and periodical fields are copied. Note that for periodical fields, the data from the last normal period (usually December) in the source year is copied to all periods in the target year.
To copy data, select the source and target years from the drop-down lists and click Copy.
